Northants' MG Owners' Club

Northants’ MG Owners’ Club was founded in February 1978 by a small band of MG Owners at a meeting at The Spinney Hill Public House on Kettering Road in Northampton. It was formed to encourage like-minded enthusiasts of the MG marque to join together for social events and activities.

Since its formation, the club has grown to become one of the oldest and more active East Midlands-based affiliates of the national MG Owners’ Club.

The club holds regular meetings twice a month.

Our monthly evening meeting venue is at the The Royal Oak Zion Hill Walgrave Northampton NN6 9PN. These meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month, starting around 8.00pm.

Our second monthly meeting is held on the last Sunday of each month (again, subject to occasional variation). This is a lunchtime meeting, commencing around 12 noon, at the Aviator Hotel, Sywell. Note that the venues and timings can change in certain circumstances. These changes will be emailed to members and displayed on this site.

We always make new and prospective members most welcome at all our meetings.

As well as our regular meetings, club members receive a regular (usually monthly) magazine entitled “More Graffiti” either electronically or by traditional mail, which includes articles, details of forthcoming events and reports by members of events and visits they have attended.

Throughout the year, the club and its members are invited to many runs, displays, rallies and other events and it is almost guaranteed that there is a club member attending an event somewhere in the UK (and overseas) at a weekend!

For some of the more local events, the club may well have booked a “club pitch” where our members’ cars are grouped together.

We often travel to these events in a convoy of cars which, as well as looking quite impressive, can be great fun. We usually plan more picturesque routes avoiding the major roads.

At some of the larger events, we may spend the weekend camping or caravanning and usually hold our own end-of-season camping weekend where the MGs are consigned to the garage and we just spend a long weekend winding down after what is always a frenetic season.

For a number of years, the club has held its own organised road runs in support of nominated charities. Our main event is “The Rose of the Shires” run which takes place usually on the third or fourth Sunday in May. The runs are usually between 65 – 80 miles in length covering many rarely visited parts of Northamptonshire and areas of adjacent counties and attract entries from all over the UK.

In recent years, the charity chosen to receive the proceeds of the event has been The Air Ambulance Service which covers Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Rutland plus the separate national Children’s Air Ambulance. To 2023, over £22,000 has been raised by Northants MGOC for this worthy cause. Of course, the club organises smaller events, often coinciding with our club meetings which can take the form of quizzes, driving skills tests, barbecues and trips to interesting local and more distant venues.

At Christmas, we always have a grand get-together and slap-up meal to end the year on a high.

It’s not just talking cars though. It’s about having fun! No matter whether you own a pre-war MG TA or a brand new MG ZS SUV (or even if you don’t own an MG and are just interested) there’s a warm welcome awaiting you at Northants MGOC.
